Sour Ale with Fruit

Who says we only do IPAs for our Beers of the Week? Who are they? Point them out to us. Better yet, point them to this beer! This week we celebrate how Honor Brewing Company in Chantilly and Sterling gifts us with this sour ale that does a proud parade march to the beat of tart fruit and textured sourness.

The Gedunk is a wheat ale in the base, fermented with Brettanomyces yeast. (No Lactobacillus is harmed in the making of the Gedunk.) They then add in strawberry puree and lemon. So, you get a rush of strawberry up front with a swell of lemon that takes you all the way to the finish.

“Gedunk” is military slang for “sweets and snacks” or “junk food.” We get what Honor is doing, but it’s not the best name for this brew. Unfortunately, there’s no military slang for “bracing fruit tartness deployed over a field of Brett sour goodness.”
