Wine of the Week 10/30/18

Slovenian wine! We bet you didn't see that coming.
The area now known as Slovenia has been producing wines for thousands of years. (The Pullus winery dates from the early 13th century!) The Slovenian wine industry suffered greatly under communism, however, and for many years, the wines were produced more for quantity than quality. Since declaring independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, however, Slovenia has been re-connecting to it's ancient wine traditions.

This liter bottle from Pullus has been a favorite of ours for a while. A blend of Sauvignon blanc, Welschriesling, Riesling, Furmint, Chardonnay, Pinot blanc, Pinot grigio, and Muscat, it has all the bright citrus and floral notes you could hope for. Dry, refreshing and versatile, it is supremely drinkable. The slightly larger bottles makes it perfect for enjoying with friends.
