Beer of the Week! 11/13/23

KCBC Nectar Protector

Normally $19.99 / Now on Sale for $18.96
Double Dry-Hopped, Double New England Style IPA with Honey

Originally brewed in September for National Honey Month, KCBC’s Nectar Protector is their collaboration with the Pink Boots Society and, (we think) more importantly, the National Honey Board.

The Pink Boots Society is a national organization of women plus non-binary brewers and beer industry professionals who seek to support, educate, and encourage women and non-binary people to explore and excel in the brewing industry.

The National Honey Board is a Research & Promotion program overseen by the Agricultural Marketing Service, a sub-division of the United States Department of Agriculture. Like all R&P programs, the Honey Board is staffed by the AMS while being funded by businesses in the industry it supports. Its purpose is to expand and protect honey markets in the U.S. through promotional initiatives and consumer education. (Remember the “Milk. It Does a Body Good” campaign? That was a project of the National Dairy Board.) These hybrid government and industry organizations don’t produce actual products, aren’t allowed to disparage the commodities covered by other boards, and aren’t allowed to use their funds to lobby. They are, apparently allowed to encourage and attach their name to products such as this DNEIPA here.

KCBC’s Nectar Protector is a double dry-hopped, double New England Style IPA hopped with Citra (of course), Strata, and Nectaron hops. Nectaron is a New Zealand hop originally bred from Waimea hops in 2004 and commercially released in 2020. An aroma hop, it kicks out loads of tropical fruit aromas, which are in full effect in the Nectar Protector due to its double dry-hopping.

We get nectarine on the nose and Satsuma orange on the palate with a rush of zest on the finish. Plus, a “healthy drizzle” of orange blossom honey makes those fruit notes really sing. This is a beer that just screams out for okra or even full-blown jambalaya.

Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause who wants a “Lonely Beer of the Week?”)

Dream State Nitro Laser Strings

Normally $14.99 / Now on Sale for $13.96
Nitrogenated Dry Irish Stout Style Stout

It’s time for our second beer from the brewery built by “The Beer Industry Duo That Could” down in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This time, their people give us a nitrogenated dry Irish Stout.

Light-bodied, as such a beer should be, the Nitro Laser Strings eschews the creamy chocolate notes so often found in Imperial Stouts for straight, dry, zippy, roasty malt. The nitrogen bubbles give it a smooth mouthfeel, allowing this beer to go down quickly and easily like the pub fare that inspired it.

If the colder temperatures have you ready for something darker but are not ready to be filled up, try this baby.
