Beer of the Week! 01/16/24

Perennial / Civil Life ESB

Normally $15.99 / Now on Sale for $14.96
(16oz four-pack cans)
ESB Style Ale

For this collaboration beer, Perennial Artisan Ales decided to reach out to fellow St. Louisans Civil Life Brewing Company. Both founded in 2011, Perennial was founded by Phil and Emily Wymore with the goal “to brew beer with the adventurous craft beer drinker in mind — focusing on hand-crafted, small batches of beer, using local, seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible,” while Civil Life was started by restauranteur Jake Hafner, his homebrewing former employee Dylan Mosely, and his business buddy Mike Bianco to be Hafner’s next food and drink establishment after having closed his bar.

Even though the two sit less than five miles from each other, they collaborated virtually to make this brew. (It was during lockdown, you see.) This brew is a traditional English style ESB, taking its cue from Civil Life, which offers a decidedly warm, welcoming, pup-like atmosphere.

Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause we’re going the distance!)

Jack’s Abby Chill Haze

Normally $11.99 / Now on Sale for $10.96
(16oz four-pack cans)
Hazy and Juicy India Pale Lager

Just because Jack’s Abby’s Craft Lagers is dedicated to being bottom fermenters (Lager yeasts sit at the bottom of your fermentation tank while ale yeasts float on the top.), that doesn’t mean that they’ve given up on the level of hopping that one finds in India Pale Ales.

Kicking the table over what you’d expect from Lagers, Jack’s Abby patterns the Chill Haze off of New England Style IPAs. Leaving this Lager unfiltered, they add in hops rife with tropical fruit notes.
