James River Tuber

IPA

James River Brewing Company started in 2012 and brewed until 2015. Then, after a change in ownership, James River Brewery took over seamlessly from where JRBC had left off. The new James River kept the old’s place as Scottsville’s comfy hometown brewery, as well as much of its original lineup of beers. This IPA is one of the brews that goes all the way back to the beginning.

The Tuber uses Mosaic and Falconer’s Flight hops. Interestingly enough, Falconer’s Flight is not a single hop but a hop blend. Made in honor of Glen Hay Falconer, a Pacific northwest brewer who died before his time in 2002, Falconer’s Flight combines Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Citra, Cluster, Columbus, and Crystal hops for all your zesty, lemony, grapefruity, dreams.

Having its heart in pre-NEIPA times, the Tuber is a lovely little hop toy. The malt is just a bit sweet, which helps the flavors merge together into a prominent but not overpowering bitterness giving you a touch of pine on the finish. As pleasing as a pub beer should be, we imagine the Tuber works just as well when you’re floating on the James (although not in this weather … although you wouldn’t have to float a cooler to keep your beer cold).
