New England Style IPA

Honor Brewing Company, up in Chantilly, VA, was founded in 2014 by U.S. Army Veteran Allen O. Cage, Jr. with the express purpose of using the brewery to honor American military service, especially when those serving have fallen in the performance of their military duties.

However, where Honor had a lot to be proud of about in terms of Cage’s service and the veterans and veterans’ families that they connected with and supported, they didn’t have a lot to be proud of with their beer. Don’t get us wrong. It wasn’t bad … it was just okay — nothing you ever had a reason to turn down when offered to you but nothing that was going to make it stand out in the bustling craft beer world.

Such a situation can be rough for a new brewery. For though the craft beer world is full of a lot of generosity among its brewers and drinkers, one thing drinkers can be unforgiving about is a slow start.

However, no one goes into the Army to learn how to give up, and Honor has done the difficult and turned things around. New recipes, new head brewer — they’re now making beers that are still no frills in their labels but not no frills in your glass.

Their Hazy IPA features locally grown wheat and barley and a collection of American hops that deliver a straight-forward chewy New England Style IPA with notes of citrus and guava. Like a dedicated brewpub brew, this tasty beer is easy to drink, easy to enjoy, and leaves you ready for the next one. Neither flashy, splashy, nor trashy, Honor’s Hazy is just an unadulterated pleasant drinking experience.
