Wine Wednesday : Cantine Elvio Tintero

  • Market Street Wine 311 East Market Street Charlottesville, VA, 22902 United States (map)

North Italy’s Tintero Family Winery

In 1900, Frenchman Pierre Tintero was making his way through Italy’s Piedmont region looking for work when he found the widow Rosina Cortese in need of someone to do odd jobs around her farm. The two soon married and worked her property (now his as well) including her vines, bottling their first Dolcetto in 1914.

After WWII, their sons (Giovanni and Carlo) took over the estate and continued making wine from their grapes, except for their Moscato grapes, which they sold to growing Moscato wine producing giants Cinzano and Martini. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Carlo’s son Elvio started making their own sparkling Moscato to go along with their still wines. Today, Elvio’s son Marco and daughter-in-law Cinzia run the estate in the heart of Moscato country.

Please join us this Wine Wednesday as guest pourer Geoff Bell from distributor The Robins Cellars, takes us through the wines of Cantine Elvio Tintero. This tasting is another of our famous free walk-up tastings guaranteed to get you through the week.
