White Wine of the Week
Cantine Elvio Tintero
Langhe Arneis
Normally $19.99 /
Now on Sale for $15.96
100% Arneis (Langhe DOC)
How It’s Made:
Today, Arneis is one of Piedmont’s known white grapes even though the grape almost went extinct by the 1960s. Fortunately, a number of today’s Piedmont producers are dedicated to the grape. Cantine Elvio Tintero ferments the Arneis for this wine for about 20 days in stainless steel. They then let the wine age on lees for two months.
Why We Like It:
There’s a place in the world for a clean, dry white. Elvio Tintero’s provides a modest fruit profile with a stream of acid running through it keeping the wine fresh.
Red Wine of the Week
Quinta Dona Mafalda
Little Mafalda
Douro Tinto
Normally $15.99 /
Now on Sale for $12.96
100% Touriga Nacional (Douro DOC)
How It’s Made:
Located in northwest Portugal’s Douro wine region, Quinta Dona Mafalda is a longtime port producer. José Teixeira Pinto Vasconcellos started the company in 1879, and, in 2011, Christie’s Port Wine Producer & Shipper, Ltd purchased the company. In addition to their ports, Dona Mafalda also makes non-fortified wines. The Little Mafalda is 100% Touriga Nacional, one of port’s frequent flyer grapes.
Why We Like It:
How often do you get a Touriga Nacional wine that isn’t a port, much less a single varietal version? Here, you get the fullness and richness of the grape with some light tannins around the edges. Sure, you can pair a wine this full-bodied with meals from meaty pastas to barbecue, but it’s so easy-drinking, we’re tempted to just sip it on its own.
Beer of the Week
Triple Crossing
Falcon Smash
Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16.9 oz can four-pack)
Hazy IPA (7.0% ABV)
How It’s Made:
The Falcon Smash (from Richmond) is Triple Crossing Beer’s house IPA, that they make with a “softer grist” of 2-Row barley malt and wheat malt and hop (and dry-hop) with the Falconer’s Flight hop blend.
Why We Like It:
Falconer’s Flight is just a fun blend — you got your citrus notes, your fruit notes — it’s a good combo to center a beer around, and Triple Crossing’s treatment here is just oh, so solid! A customer recommended this beer to us, and we’re so glad that they did.
