Red Wine of the Week
Dal Maso
Cabernet
Normally $15.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc (Veneto IGT)
How It’s Made:
Though Dal Maso winemaker Nicola Dal Maso enjoys working with local grape varieties the most, he still puts care behind this Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc blend. He pulls the grapes from different parcels in Dal Maso vineyards, grown in clay free grain soil, with medium-high limestone contents. After they de-stem and crush the grapes, Dal Maso leaves them to macerate for seven days in open topped tanks. They then ferment them for 15 days in stainless steel tanks before aging them for three months, also in stainless steel.
Why We Like It:
Many of us don’t think of Italy’s Veneto region for Cabernet Sauvignons. You may wonder what to expect from this one. What happens here is that this red sneaks up on you with how tasty it is. Full-bodied with deep berry fruit that flirts with slight spicy notes, it finishes with soft tannins. This wine was a big hit when people discovered it at a recent tasting.
White Wine of the Week
Vignerons du Castelas
Le Ballon
Pays de Gard Blanc
Normally $13.99 /
Now on Sale for $11.96
100% Viognier (Gard IGP)
How It’s Made:
Written on the walls of Vignerons du Castelas’ cellar are the words “Moins de vin, mais meilleur.” (Less wine, but better.) From their start in 1952, they’ve been dedicated to making affordable wines from high-quality fruit that has been drenched in the sun of the southern Rhône. For this Viognier, they take their grapes, grown in limestone and clay soils, destem them, and then subject them to a month-long fermentation at cold temperatures. Finally, they age the resultant wine in concrete.
Why We Like It:
This white is yet another entry into a slew of tasty southern Rhône Viogniers that we’ve been lucky enough to encounter. The Le Ballon offers up fresh fruit sitting on a plate of slightly ashy minerality. Tasty and refreshing, get ready for a white that pairs perfectly with gazing into a sunny, blue sky.
Beer of the Week
Basic City
Citra-Lingus
Normally $14.99 / $3.79
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16.9 oz 4P cans)
Single Hop Double IPA (7.6% ABV)
How It’s Made:
Basic City makes this double hazy, juicy IPA with just one hop — the Citra hop.
Why We Like It:
This brew is a gift to people who are in the mood for something definitely un-subtle … and also definitely great. Whatever — you should know that this is a big beer! Super hazy, off-dry with a slight zest of the finish, the whole thing drinks like a Meyer lemon shake and just disappears from your glass. That’s why we recommend having at least a second one waiting in the wings.
