White Wine of the Week

Caves Messias
Santola
Vinho Verde
Normally $12.99 /
Now on Sale for $10.96
Loureiro, Pedernã (Vinho Verde DO)

How It’s Made:

Caves Messias grows the grapes for this Vinho Verde in granitic soil (which predominates the Vinho Verde region), forcing the grape vines to grow deep roots to find nutrients and moisture. These difficult soils lead the vines to produce more concentrated berries than soils with more nutrients and that have better moisture retention. Caves Messias balances out the acidity that the granitic soil also produces with a low temperature fermentation that brings out the fruit in the grape berries.

Why We Like It:

There’s always a place in the world for a good Vinho Verde. The Santola is off-off dry with a pleasing acidity that mixes with its light bubbles — one of our favorite spritzy whites.

Red Wine of the Week

Proyecto Garnachas de España
Salvaje La Garnacha del Moncayo

Normally $21.99 /
Now on Sale for $17.96
100% Garnacha (Ribera del Queiles DO)

How It’s Made:

The Spanish Garnacha Project (El Proyecto Garnachas de España) is the brainchild of Raúl Acha, Technical Director of northern Spanish wine company Vintae. Inspired by the fact that his great-grandfather planted Garnacha vines 100 years ago, Acha looks for old Garnacha vines throughout the Erbo basin to make his wines. He constructs the Wild Garnacha of Moncayo from grapes grown at over 2,500 feet above sea level, on the slopes of the Moncayo mountain range, in stony soil. The Proyecto macerates the grapes for two weeks and ferments them in stainless steel. They then age their wine in French oak.

Why We Like It:

Wild growing old vine Garnacha? Sign us up! Come for the brambly vivacity that huddles up next to wild berry fruit producing a surprisingly fresh tasting red; stay around for the zippy tannins on the finish.

Beer of the Week

Sierra Nevada
Atomic Torpedo

Normally $12.99 / $2.19
Now on Sale for $11.96 (12 oz 6P cans)
Imperial IPA (now 9.2% ABV!)

How It’s Made:

For the longest time, Chico, CA’s Sierra Nevada Brewing did not have an IPA … because they had their Pale Ale — one of the best and hoppiest Pale Ales around. (And if you had the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, why have anything else?) Finally, in 2009, they bowed to expectations and released their Torpedo IPA. The Atomic Torpedo is the imperial version. Back in 2023, they redid the label art and goosed the 2-Row Pale and Honey malts to bump the ABV up from 8.2% to 9.2%. They bitter it with a power quartet of whole cone (That’s right, whole cone.) Cascade, Centennial, Magnum, and Mosaic hops. Of course, they dry-hop it with their eponymizing, custom dry-hop device, the Hop Torpedo.

Why We Like It:

We don’t care if they’ve been around forever in Craft Beer Years, Sierra Nevada just makes good brews! The Atomic Torpedo is smooth but potent with a honey hint in the malt base and a piney herbality on the finish.
