Red Wine of the Week

Proyecto Garnachas de España
Salvaje La Garnacha del Moncayo

Normally $21.99 /
Now on Sale for $17.96
100% Garnacha (Ribera del Queiles DO)

How It’s Made:

The Spanish Garnacha Project (El Proyecto Garnachas de España) is the brainchild of Raúl Acha, Technical Director of northern Spanish wine company Vintae. Inspired by the fact that his great-grandfather planted Garnacha vines 100 years ago, Acha looks for old Garnacha vines throughout the Erbo basin to make his wines. He constructs the Wild Garnacha of Moncayo from grapes grown at over 2,500 feet above sea level, on the slopes of the Moncayo mountain range, in stony soil. The Proyecto macerates the grapes for two weeks and ferments them in stainless steel. They then age their wine in French oak.

Why We Like It:

Wild growing old vine Garnacha? Sign us up! Come for the brambly vivacity that huddles up next to wild berry fruity producing a surprisingly fresh tasting red; stay around for the zippy tannins on the finish.

White Wine of the Week

Weingut Manfred Breit
Riesling
Trocken
Normally $21.99 (1L bottle) /
Now on Sale for $17.96
100% Riesling (Mosel DQ)

How It’s Made:

In 1965, Matthias Breit bought a winery outside of Piesport in west central Germany, not even 20 miles from Luxemberg. Breit then set out to learn how to make wine. After completing his training in 1970, he formally took over the winery, and he, his wife, and their son Manfred set out to make some vino. Today, Manfred sustainably runs the estate, growing their grapes following organic practices.

Why We Like It:

This Riesling is just on the edge of trocken (dry). The small amount of residual sugar allows you to really taste the fruit as it’s caressed by acid. A clear expression of Riesling, this Mosel white is a great brunch wine. It’s also perfect for celebrating early (or false) spring.

Beer of the Week

Tröegs
Nugget Nectar
Imperial Amber

Normally $14.99 / $2.49
Now on Sale for $13.96 (12 oz 6P cans)
Imperial Amber (7.5% ABV)

How It’s Made:

Straight outta’ Hershey, PA, Tröegs (remember Tröegs?) is still around and still makes this classic Imperial Amber, which you should just think of as a double IPA. These days, they’re fashioning its malt backbone out of Munich, Pilsner, and Vienna malts only to ladle in a collection of Palisade, Simcoe, Tomahawk, Warrior, and (of course) Nugget hops. They then throw whole flower Nugget hops in their very own HopBack vessel.

Why We Like It:

It’s the Nugget Nectar! Do we need a reason other than that? Okay, fine …

.., Here’s an IPA from Beer World’s Past. Filtered, clean, the perfect copper color, it boasts a solid malt background with just a hint of sweetness to hold up its stinging, complex hop presence — a hop presence that gives you pineapple, mango, and spicy herbal notes on the finish. Now, please excuse us, we’ve got to go open another one!
