Terre Rouge Wines / Easton Wines

Terre Rouge Wines was founded in the late 80s by the husband and wife team of wine merchant turned winemaker Bill Easton and entrepreneur Jane O’Riordan. Easton was one of the first vintners to bring Rhône grape varieties into north central California’s Sierra Foothills AVA.

“Terre Rouge” translates from French to “Red Earth,” and is not a Mars reference but, rather, refers to the vermillion-colored soil that covers the region. In this granite and volcanic-based soil, Easton grows grapes such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne. He also grows non-Rhône varieties, and for the wines he makes with those grapes, he’s created the Easton Wines brand.
