Friday Tasting: Ides of March!

  • Market Street Wine 311 East Market Street Charlottesville United States (map)

Rome If You Want to … !

Julius Caesar had to beware the Ides of March, but you don’t! Commemorate the most famous failed strike against the death of the republic and the rise of empire by joining us for a tasting of wines from the Lazio region that surrounds Rome.

Sandwiched between Tuscany to the north and Campania to the south, Lazio first saw grape growing when the Etruscans spread agriculture through the area. Today, Lazio is mostly known for its whites made from Trebbiano and Malvasia. However, it does have its own signature red grape, Cesanese. We’ve been pleased to have in our shop such classic Lazio wines as well as wines from lesser known Lazio grapes.

Join us this Friday and drink as the Romans do! This is a free walk-up tasting that you can attend anytime within the hour and a half. (Discounts for customers who arrive in classical Roman costume!) Note — no newly crowned emperors will be harmed at the tasting. We’ll only raise glasses, not daggers!
