Made in Japan … or made in the U.S.A.?

Sake was first imported to America in 1856. For almost half a century, any sake you had here was being shipped across the ocean. Then in 1901, American made sake first appeared in Berkeley, CA. That was also the first recorded time when someone wondered which was better, sake from Japan or sake from the U.S.

(Actually, that last part is just a guess, but we bet it’s a very good guess!)

This Thursday, we’ll taste two sakes from Japan and two sakes from the United States to see what differences, if any, arise.
