Red Wine of the Week
Comtesse Marion
Pays d'Oc Pinot Noir
Normally $17.99 /
Now on Sale for $14.96
100% Pinot Noir (Languedoc VdP)
How It’s Made:
Comtesse Marion makes this south of France red from Pinot Noir grown in the pastoral hills near the village of Vias, along the Mediterranean coast. The vines are 30+ years old and planted in volcanic soil. Cometesse Marion ferments the grapes in stainless steel and ages the resutant wine in steel as well.
Why We Like It:
This lovely, easy-to-sip Pinot immediately offers up savory tannins that set the stage for deep berry fruit and then hang around for the finish. You want to have this wine on your shelf as a goto bottle.
White Wine of the Week
Terrae Palmae
Vermentino di Sardegna
Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $11.96
100% Vermentino (Sardinia DOC)
How It’s Made:
The sustainably maintained vineyards for this white from Italy’s second largest island sit at sea level, in Marmilla. That’s the lower Sulcis region, where the vines dwell in the sea’s salt air. After harvesting the grapes, the winemakers subject them to a cold maceration, followed by 10 days of a low temperature fermentation. They then age the wine for a few months in stainless steel.
Why We Like It:
This white offers a light acidity all around that quickly softens into the Vermentino grape’s tart fruit. Maybe it’s just a suggestion from the name and the label, but there’s something about this fresh white that just says, “island wine!”
Beer of the Week
Väsen
Bivvy
Normally $14.99 / $3.79
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16 oz four-pack)
Hazy IPA (5.6% ABV)
How It’s Made:
Richmond’s Väsen Brewing Company makes this hazy IPA from El Dorado, Citra, and Sultana hops.
Why We Like It:
Väsen gives the Bivvy a light malt backbone to showcase their hop selection, which provides a hop character that strides citrusy and minty. (The citrus really hits you on the nose.) Dry, light, and hoppy — though we’ve had bigger beers from this Richmond brewery, somehow this feels like the quintessential Väsen IPA.
