Red Wine of the Week

Lupo Meraviglia
Tre de Tre
Puglia Rosso

Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $14.96
Negroamaro, Aglianico, Primitivo (Puglia DOC)

How It’s Made:

Lupo Meraviglia makes this wine from a trio of favorite regional red grapes that they grow in the Salento area of Puglia. They co-ferment them and use the Salasso or “bleeding” technique, which extracts juice from both the must and the skins, delivering a red wine with deeper color and more intensity. They then age the wine for six months in Slavonian oak, allowing it to undergo malolactic fermentation.

Why We Like It:

All of Lupo Meraviglia’s efforts here successfully deliver a smooth, full-bodied, rich red, which drinks like chocolate cherries. Don’t worry. There’s a bit of acid and tannic zing that build on the finish to keep it from being jammy and flabby — a beauty of a deep red.

White Wine of the Week

Vignobles Siozard
Château du Claouset
Bordeaux Blanc

Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $14.96
60% Sauvignon Blanc & Sauvignon Gris, 35% Sémillon, 5% Muscadelle (Bordeaux AOC)

How It’s Made:

Working with organic grapes grown in Bordeaux’s Entre-Deux-Mers region, Vignobles Siozard presses their grapes and then allows them a brief stint of maceration before a cold ferment for 10 days in stainless steel vats. They then age their wine (we assume in steel as well) on its lees before bottling.

Why We Like It:

How much fun can an Entre-Deux-Mers white be? (So much fun!) Dry pear-like fruit sits ensconced in an appealing basket of acid. It’s just waiting for a light cheddar to play with.

Beer of the Week

Victory
Juicy Monkey
(a replacement for the Tröegs Double Nugget)

Normally $3.99
Now on Sale for $2.96 (19.2 oz can)
Juicy Strong Ale (9.5% ABV)

How It’s Made:

Downingtown, PA’s Victory Brewing Company does what you think would be impossible — they make an ale that tastes like it has fruit juice added to it just by manipulating the malt and a trio of juicy aroma and “bittering” hops — Sabro, Lotus, and Sultana.

Why We Like It:

First off, ignore Victory’s claim that this beer is an IPA. Just toss that out. For us, an IPA has to have either bitterness or citrus zest, and you get neither here. Once you accept that, you can move on to what this brew actually provides, which is juiciness — strong flavors of tangerine and pineapple. We call it an unfiltered American Strong Ale that’s a tropical juice bomb.
